My second year as a supply teacher is coming up, and with it a mix of feelings. I know I am stronger, smarter, capable of more than I was last year.
I’ve been extremely fortunate to have had a couple of empowering and motivating conversations with friends and family about this. I was on the subway thinking about the direction my life is taking (a positive one) and I thought of some very simple rules I could follow in the upcoming year. Rules that have nothing to do with “knowing” anything, or doing the right thing, but guidelines for taking it in stride.
Rules For Teaching
- Take it one day at a time.
- Forgive yourself.
- Don’t teach imaginary classrooms.
- Remember past victories.
- Be strong for your loved ones.
