I was working hard today, the kind of shift where nothing quite goes just right and you are running everywhere to catch up.
I just got told a pickup had already happened before I arrived, making my roughly mile-walk/run through the corridors of my job redundant. I was out of breath and a little peeved when I caught an elevator to an upper level. The concierge was an elderly man, who could probably see my tension. I asked him, mechanically, how his day was going. He looked me in the eyes with a smirk.
‘Up and down…’
I burst out laughing. So corny, but it was just what I needed.
